Meet Nadine Davenport

Nadine Davenport is the owner of UniTea Tea Room

Nadine Davenport was a musician who had toured and played in venues throughout BC and it was a gig in Ashcroft that introduced her to the town for the first time. Although she had grown up in BC, she never realized before that there was a desert here. She was mesmerized by the natural surroundings and felt drawn to the strong arts community. So when she decided to leave her hometown of Vancouver in pursuit of a slower pace and healthier lifestyle, she chose Ashcroft.

Nadine had always been a self-starter with a passion for getting things going from the ground up. In Vancouver she had been a driving force behind a group of women musicians and songwriters called “Girls with Guitars.” In Ashcroft she was working behind the scenes of the Opera House. She always had the desire to start a business, but for a long time she didn’t know what kind of business. She had a passion for connecting groups of people and bringing them together around a common interest, and during her first years in Ashcroft she began to envision a space where such interactions could take place. She also wanted to focus on health and wellness, in keeping with the town’s own vision of a healthy community. Years of dreaming and planning led her to develop the concept for UniTea, and she finally opened its doors in 2014.

Nadine feels gratified when people come into UniTea and tell her how much they love the space and the tea. “People call it their ‘oasis,’” says Nadine. Nadine is also thrilled to have such an amazing and capable staff who are as committed as she is to health and wellness. In fact, Nadine notes, two of them are vegetarians and have been instrumental in educating her about the benefits of a vegetarian diet. UniTea has been warmly embraced by the community, and this makes all the hard work involved in getting the business started worthwhile.
